St John the Baptist, Canton: TLM

Thanks to a Friend on Twitter for getting this out. The Basilica of St John the Baptist in Canton, OH, will be offering a TLM low Mass on the Saturdays of Lent. As stated in their bulletin, a group of parishioners joined together to petition for this Mass to be available. A stable group and a pastor of good will.

Lenten Devotions

Immaculate Conception Cleveland is once again offering TLM Faithful a good and pious practice on the Fridays of Lent, with the opportunity for Confession, Mass and Benediction.

And, as normal, Confessions are always heard before the 9:30am TLM on Sundays at St. Stephen, and also during Holy Hour on Wednesdays, which follow the 6:30pm low Mass.

Ash Wednesday TLM’s

The season of Septuagesima is nearing its end, meaning Lent is approaching. Have you found this current time to be a good preparation for Lent?

Of course, Ash Wednesday is February 26, 2020; less than a week away. Opportunities abound for Faithful Catholics to receive ashes in the traditional form. We are so blessed to be Catholics in Cleveland.

Septuagesima, The Season of Preparation

Friends, this is no ordinary time. Let us prepare ourselves for the holy season of Lent, which will quickly encompass us, as we know time passes swiftly.

"Introduced by three Sundays (Septugesim, Sexagesima, and Quinquagesima), the season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with the death of Jesus in Passion Week. The struggle between our Lord and Satan ends with the victory of the Savior at Eastertide. During the period from Septuagesima to Ash Wednesday, the liturgy speaks no more of our greatness but contemplates the misery of fallen humanity, the fatal consequences of original sin and actual sin, and the sacrifice that God asked from the faithful Melchisedech, symbol of the sacrifice that Jesus brings for the whole humanity."

St. Rocco, Sunday TLM's, Needs Help

St. Rocco Church, a lovely Italian parish on Cleveland's westside, has been offering the TLM on First Sunday's for about a year now. Recently, Cleveland TLM Friends came across this notice on Twitter, announcing that the parish will be celebrating the TLM every Sunday at 12pm, and is in need of TLM servers. Please consider passing this along to potentially interested parties.

Candlemas, Feast of the Purification

Tomorrow, Feb 2, is the Feast of the Purification of the BVM, also known as Candlemas. Traditionally, on this day, there is a special ritual for the blessing of candles and then a procession follows.

The full celebration will take place at Immaculate Conception at the 12pm High Mass.

For those attending St. Stephen, please be aware that time constraints will not permit this ritual. Instead, the Faithful may bring candles and hold them up to be sprinkled during the asperges ceremony.

St. Blaise

The Feast of St. Blaise is on Monday, Feb 3. St. Blaise was a physician and bishop, and was beheaded in 316. According to The Acts of St. Blaise, a mother, whose child was choking on a bone in his throat, threw herself at St. Blaise's feet as he was being taken into custody. She implored his intercession for her child, and upon the Saint's prayers, the child was cured.

Immaculate Conception Cleveland offers a 7am Mass every Monday morning.

In anticipation of the feast day,  Fr. Bede will bless throats following the 9:30am Sunday Mass on Feb 2. The faithful are invited to approach the rail after the choir receives communion following Mass. Father will say the intercessory prayer ONCE over the entire congregation, and then proceed to touch throats at the rail. This, again, is due to time constraints.
