He wished to be worthy of this, for which he had been chosen.” Before the high altar in the magnificent Matthias Corvinus church in Budapest, Karl pledged himself to work tirelessly for peace and justice in his realm."

His Excellency, Don Teodoro de Faria

Bishop Emeritus of Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, author of a new book about Blessed Karl.  As Bishop of the diocese in which Blessed Karl died in 1922, Bishop de Faria has long been active in his cause for sainthood, and it was he who formally presented to the Holy Father the petition to beatify Emperor Karl at the beatification ceremony in Saint Peter’s Square on 3 October 2004. A native of Madeira, Bishop de Faria was ordained in 1956 at the age of 26, consecrated bishop of Funchal in 1982, and since his retirement in 2007, has been working on his book about Blessed Karl, which he will discuss during his remarks.

Ricardo Dumont dos Santos

Portugal Delegate of the Emperor Karl League of Prayers.   Mr. Dumont dos Santos is the honorary consul of the Federal Republic of Germany on the Portuguese island of Madeira.   His family's connection to Blessed Karl encompasses three generations. His father, Dr. Alfredo Dumont Machado dos Santos, was leader of the Emperor Karl Prayer League in Portugal until his death in 1989.  His paternal grandfather was one of the doctors called for consultation during the final illness of Emperor Karl, and it was he who signed his death certificate. 

Thurs, 9/26, Mass Time Change

St. Stephen's Thursday evening Low Mass on 9/26 will be at 6pm, not at the regular time of 6:30pm. This applies ONLY to the Mass on 9/26. The regular time will resume next week. Please pass the word on to anyone you know who may be intending to go to this Mass.

Latin Mass, Sept 18, Mary Queen of Peace

Fr. Doug Brown, pastor of Mary Queen of Peace church at 4423 Pearl Rd, Cleveland, will celebrate a Latin Mass at 6pm on Wednesday, September 18.

Some of you will recognize Fr. Doug Brown as he assisted at many Solemn Masses over the last few years.

Upcoming Masses, Immaculate Conception, Cleveland

Immaculate Conception in Cleveland has a couple of special Masses upcoming. First, in reparation for the terrorist attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, a Solemn High Requiem Mass will be offered at 6:30pm. Then, on Saturday, September 14, for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Low Mass will be offered at 8am.

High Mass, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sept 8

Fr. David Ireland, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus in South Euclid, has asked that the TLM faithful be notified that on Sunday, September 8, his parish will offer High Mass at 5pm.

Fr. Franz's Last Latin Mass as Pastor

Dear Friends of the TLM,

As some of you already know, Rev. S. Michael Franz, pastor of St. Stephen Church, will enter into retirement on September 1, 2013.

Fr. Franz has been a terrific friend of the Traditional Latin Mass. On October 3rd, 2007, Fr. Franz celebrated the first TLM at his parish in over 40 years, and has continued to do so every Wednesday. Since Easter Sunday of 2008, Fr. Franz has welcomed High Mass and Fr. Bede to his parish every Sunday and on many Feast Days and Days of Obligation. St. Stephen, again, at the sincere welcoming of Fr. Franz, now has 4 Traditional Latin Masses during the week, and on every First Friday and First Saturday. Clearly, Fr. Franz has been a true friend of the TLM, and someone for whom the TLM faithful in Cleveland can be very thankful.

Wednesday, August 28, will be Fr. Franz's last celebration of the TLM as pastor of St. Stephen. Please consider assisting at this Mass, and thanking Father afterwards for his pastoral care to the TLM faithful.

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

REMINDER:  Thursday, August 15, 2013, is an Holy Day of Obligation.

The beautiful words of St. John Damascene....

Today the spotless Virgin, untouched by earthly affections, and all heavenly in her thoughts, was not dissolved in earth, but truly entering heaven, dwells in the heavenly tabernacles. Who would be wrong to call her heaven, unless indeed he truly said that she is greater than heaven in surpassing dignity? The Lord and Creator of heaven, the Architect of all things beneath the earth and above, of creation, visible and invisible, Who is not circumvented by place (if that which surrounds things is rightly termed place), created Himself, without human co-operation, an Infant in her. He made her a rich treasure-house of His all-pervading and alone uncircumscribed Godhead, subsisting entirely in her without passion, remaining entire in His universality and Himself uncircumscribed. To-day the life-giving treasury and abyss of charity (I know not how to trust my lips to speak of it) is hidden in immortal death. She meets it without fear, who conceived death's destroyer, if indeed we may call her holy and vivifying departure by the name of death. For how could she, who brought life to all, be under the dominion of death ? But she obeys the law of her own Son, and inherits this chastisement as a daughter of the first Adam, since her Son, who is the life, did not refuse it. As the Mother of the living God, she goes through death to Him. For if God said: "Unless the first man put out his hand to take and taste of the tree of life, he shall live for ever," how shall she, who received the Life Himself, without beginning or end, or finite vicissitudes, not live for ever. 

"We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory." With these words, Pope Pius XII infallibly declared the Assumption of Mary, the Mother of God (theotokos), to be Catholic dogma in 1950. In this pronouncement, he was simply stating dogmatically what the Church, East and West, had believed for hundreds of years.

We are blessed in the Diocese of Cleveland to have the opportunity to celebrate this glorious feast with the Traditional Latin Mass. Immaculate Conception will offer Low Mass in the morning, at 7am, and both St. Stephen and Immaculate Conception will celebrate Solemn High Mass in the evening at 6:30pm.

The War of the Vendee

Fr. Ireland, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, asked us to spread the word about this movie event at his parish. 

Free Screening of the new Catholic Family Film, The War of the Vendee at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knights Hall (below the Church) on  Monday July 22 at 7:00pm!

Solemn Mass, July 21

Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in South Euclid will offer Solemn Mass on July 21st, 2013, at 5pm, in celebration of Fr. David Ireland's (pastor) 30th anniversary. In addition, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, head of the Archdiocese for the Military Services U.S.A., will preach.
